your horse's health

Horse at PCS are fed 10% sweet feed and an orchard grass mixture hay both morning and evening. If horses are kept in their stalls, turned out on mud lots, or in fields during snowy winter months; they will be provided with extra hay throughout the day. Please notify us if your horse needs medications, supplements, etc. Every owner is completely reliable for buying and providing their own medications, supplements, etc. Horses always receive fresh water each morning and evening in their stall buckets, along with water and salt blocks in the field.

turnout and grazing

We require that all horses are turned out with their halter on at all times. Weather permitting, PCS tries turning the horses out daily for exercise and grazing. Horses may be turned out with blankets, fly sheets, fly masks, etc. However, the facility is not responsible for anything lost or damaged in the fields. New horses MUST be up to date on their Coggins and all vaccinations before being brought onto the property. When new horses are brought to PCS, they are quarantined for a short period of time before they are split into either the mare or gelding herd. Horses may be turned out into the round pen or outdoor riding arena. It's your responsibility to clean up any manure or hay left by your horse!

keeping things clean

Every stall at PCS must be and will be cleaned daily! There are no exceptions! Private paddocks and mud lots are cleaned thoroughly of manure, weeds, and left over hay. We'd appreciate it if you help us by keeping your stall clean of cobwebs as well! All horse manure must be dumped into the dumpster located between the two barns. We only provide pine shavings or Corncob pellets as our stall bedding. Straw bedding is only used for injured horses that are on stall rest. Please do not install anything on the walls inside or outside of the stalls. We appreciate it!

your tack and supplies

The climate controlled tack room is secure and kept securely locked at all times. Feel free to keep your saddles, saddle pads, and bridles inside the tack room. If you have a tack box or any other equipment, it must be stored in the area directly above the tack room up in the loft. Nothing is to be kept in front of the stalls. We advise that you bring some type of combination or key lock for your tack box. All owners and volunteers are completely responsible for all of their own tack and equipment kept at the facility, please make sure you mark or label everything that you rightfully own. Let the stable owners know if you are missing something!

privately owned horses

We always have a few owner's at PCS who will often allow PCS volunteers to groom and/or ride their horse(s) with prior permission. However, all volunteers are required to contact the horse's owner and ask for their written permission before they can handle any privately owned horse. There are restrictions when volunteers ride privately owned horses at PCS, yet it's something that the volunteer, horse owner, and Mark or Elaine Allison need to discuss. Thank you for understanding.

additional information

There is absolutely no smoking in the barn, around the barn, or on the premises! Our facility features around the clock security and dogs on the property at all times. However, please keep all barns cats out of the tack room and bathroom. No dogs, please. If your horse leaves manure while in the wash stall, grooming stalls, or in the riding or lunging facility, then please be considerate and clean it up! ONLY the Possum Creek staff has the permission to open and close the two large sliding doors at either end of the barn. Please do not do so on your own! Do not use the outside hose or the wash stall in temperatures that fall below 40 degrees. We'd appreciate it if you please notify the barn owners in advance if you know that you can't make it out to volunteer or take care of your own horse(s). Thank you! The grooming stations are to be swept and kept clean each time after you use them. All trash is to be disposed of in the appropriate places at the barn!

Thanks for keeping us a clean, safe, fun, and friendly equine facility!
